I would personally go for one of the more premium models of the Civic. The Mini-Cooper is a cool car, but I am a damage appraiser for an automotive insurance company and I can tell you from personal experience they do not do well in crashes. Think about getting hit by one of these big trucks, its not pretty. The Civic, however, seems fairly sturdy in terms of accidents and safety. It is also a lot more practical than any of the other vehicles on the list. The Mazda 3 would be my second choice, but that's just because I think that the Prius is one of the ugliest cars on the road, and we don't know about the long term maintenance issues on hybrid vehicles.
