Auto Paddle
Help with calculating how much electricity can be generated from a paddle wheel?
I have a new idea for generating electricity I would like to get pattend.But I need to calculate out how much electricity it will produce. Like a paddle wheel my idea only needs to be built & maintained. It can be built big or small & is not envirolmentaly damaging in any way. I think it could also pay for itself rather quickly to. So I am looking for some help from someone with auto.cad. & or engineering nolage to help me get this started properly. I am not making a paddle wheel I just think the math would work out the same as for my idea. I am in burnaby if anyone from the lowermainland is interested in a new progect.

But 1 HP is 550 LBS/FT/second
The theoretical energy is that 550 pounds of whatever (water) descending at a rate of one feet per second will produce one HP (~750W)
Assuming 100% efficiency!
There are various types of turbines
Caplan used on tall water falls
Francis
Peleton used on shallow water falls.

I dont own an auto car and just wondering...
Yes it can be attached to an automatic. Some manufacturers already offer it. VW and Audi call it "autoshift", and Porsche call it "tiptronic" - and both of these are based on an automatic transmission with a torque converter. It all depends on how your transmission selects gears. If the gear is selected electronically (and not via a mechanical cable), then it's pretty simple - but I'm not sure what shifting system your particular car uses. Also, there's really no point having it in an auto, since it already selects the gears for you. If you really want to be in control of the transmission, buy one with stick shift.

PS: It's actually much harder to fit a paddle shift onto a manual gearbox - that requires an awful lot of extra electronics and servo motors. Generally, the gearbox has to be designed specifically to use paddle shifters - like the Lamborghini, which is actually a manual gearbox and clutch that is operated electronically. It has no bands, no internal hydraulics, and no torque converter - just a regular sequential stick shift with electric servo motors to shift the actual cogs for you.
