Used 2003 Mini Cooper - Should I buy?

I'm seriously thinking of buying a Used 2003 Mini Cooper this week. It has almost 43,000 miles with a price tag of $13.999. I test drove the car and fell in love with it. It'll act as our second car, getting me to and from work and to the day care center to drop off and pick up our son. Any feedback??? Please advise. Thanks!

A Mini can make a great family car. I would try for a 2005-06 though if you're going to get one used. The earlier models did have some problems with the gearboxes and fuses.

They're very, very safe, and outperform pick-ups and SUV's in crash tests. Being the nimble cars they are, it's easy to AVOID a potential accident.

There is a new model coming out this year, called the Clubman. It's a slightly longer Mini, with more room in the back.

What is the best kind of Mini Cooper, year?

My dad and I want to buy a Mini Cooper, but what year should we buy? Its going to be a used Mini Cooper. No more than 15,000$.

If you are looking under 15k, it won't be a new one. A stripped base Cooper will run at least 18k.

You are probably looking at an '02 to '06 MINI. There was a redesign/refresh in for the '05 model year, so I personally think that the '05 and '06 models are the best. The body style looks the same from the '02 to '04, but they are a bit less prone to rattling and have some other minor changes. I'd avoid the '02 models and early '03 (maybe after March or April of '03 would be OK - look for the month and year of manufacture on the driver's side door pillar).
