Cooper Mini Safety
Should I even consider a non-hybrid car?
I've looked at a few cars and I keep coming back to two. The Mini Cooper and the Toyota Prius, both are good on safety, and cost about the same. But one looks way better [cooper] and the other gets insane gas mileage. Should I even consider getting a non-hybrid car given how high gas is reported to go?
Gas Mileage [highway/city]:
Mini Cooper - 28/37
Prius - 48/45
42% better/18% better
I mean how much money would I be saving a year? Because I know that repair costs on a hybrid are more...in theory it might just level out over time...and I'm doing mostly "city" driving actually...
What about the fun-factor? I've driven both and the Prius is pretty boring, and the base price is just over $3,000 more than the base of the Cooper.
Based on average driving, you'd save about $350 a year in fuel. So that's just under 10 years to recover your $.
Oh- and MINI Comes with Free maintenance for the first 3 years. You gotta pay for maintenance on the Prius every year.
So back to the fun factor, wanna be bored for 10 years?

Mini cooper S vs. Subaru WRX for first car?
hey, i just got my license recently and am looking for a car. my two choices are the R53 Mini cooper S and an 02-04 subaru wrx. i was wondering whats better in terms of power, practicality, handiling and safety.

Both are very good on all counts. However, both are too much car for a new driver. The WRX in particular.
People joke that WRX stands for "wrecks." It's because of inexperienced and/or stupid drivers crashing them because they got in over their heads.
A base Mini or Impreza would be a much better choice.
