[URGENT] How do i clear partitions? [Linux, Dell, Mini 9]?

My brother bought that dell inspirion mini 9 with the running of Dell's custom Mini OS based on Ubuntu 8.04. Just recently during updates it stopped and stated that some of the partitions are full. He and I have no idea what that means. I know that the memory limit provided doesn't make sense for Linux Users, but he got the linuxOS so what can ya do...

Every since that error message came up the whole netbook has been running/working insufficiently. He can no longer connect to wireless hotspots or the wireless router in our house. Our local ethernet cord doesn't even seem to work. Its not working and im am concerned for the well being of the netbook. So i guess my real question is: How do i fix in be myself without any help from dell or without the use of alot of $$$ ?

I use Ubuntu all the time, and it is capable of using parts of the hard drive for different operating systems. For instance; if you have a 20 GB HD, you can use 10 GB for XP, and 10 GB for Ubuntu. If you download Ubuntu from the net or send for a free CD ( it's now 9.04 ) down load till it gets to partition, then click on "use entire disk". But for some reason, I always have a hard time with Dell, don't know why.
