is it a good idea to store large pictures in mysql?
I have too many pictures and thumbnails.. Is it a good ideo to use mysql to keep pictures? or should I build a file system?
I dont think so.
Mainly because the size of your database.
The larger the database, the harder drives need to work to pull bits and bytes out of it and the harder it is to index it. The easier it is for it to be fragmented. Plus you'll have to back it up too and each picture is going to be replicated every time you do a full back up of that database.
Its better just to build it in as a file system and reference the file names in your database with a description. You get the best of both worlds that way
