Miles Wheels Clean
How often should maintenance be done on my 2002 honda accord.It has 56,000 miles.?
They said I need the fluids flushed or changed. The fuel system needs to be cleaned,tuneups and wheel alignment.I don't trust mechanics because I think they try to take advantage because I'm a woman.
Don't listen to the folks who put you down. Many, not all, mechanics lie and take advantage of people (not just women only, but men also). I've seen it happen. Also, many mechanics overtighten lug nuts with impact wrenches because 1. they weren't trained properly 2. they don't care about the damage their actions will cause (especially to Asian and Euro cars) and/or 3. they were trained to work on domestics only.
Change your oil and oil filters every 3,500 miles. Replace the other filters and fluids every 25,000 - 35,000 miles. This includes coolant, transmission fluid, power steering fluid (optional, but recommended by me; use Honda or Honda-specific fluid only - it's very important), and brake fluid. Besides the oil filter, the other filters are the air and fuel filters. The cabin air filter (if applicable) isn't that important unless you have allergies. Transmission filters can be replaced at 100,000 miles. Spark plugs for your Accord should be replaced every 50,000 miles - I recommend that you use NGK Laser Platinum. The timing belt, water pump, and timing belt tensioner should be replaced at the same time at 80,000 miles. This is very important - a broken timing belt will result in serious, expensive, and time-consuming engine damage. It should cost $500 to $700, including labor. Your Honda may need valve adjustments at 120,000 miles - check your manual. Between 100,000 and 180,000 miles, you'll need new oxygen sensors, a spark plug wire set, and catalytic converters.
Normally the fuel system does not need to be cleaned. I personally put in a container of fuel system cleaner into the gas tank twice a year. If you don't think anything is wrong with the fuel system, don't pay for a cleaning service.
Tire rotations are helpful, but it may be just as economical to not do them and replace tires two at a time (for FWD cars). Every time someone takes out a wheel (or multiple wheels), you run the risk of having overtightened lug nuts on the wheel(s) when you get your car back. Then you'll eventually end up with warped rotors and need to replace the rotors and brake pads. The mechanics get away with it because no evidence exists of them not torquing the wheels properly. Because of one bad experience, I decided to rotate tires myself, and re-torque the wheels after anyone else touches them. My suspicions were correct - I had to use my electrical impact wrench to undo their mistakes each time. You are correct to assume that many mechanics try to take advantage of women - everyone who thinks otherwise is living under a rock, or is an honest mechanic who don't have experience dealing with other mechanics. Not all are bad - you need to find someone honest who really cares about what they do.

Busting Auto Maintenance Myths
Honda with a salvage title a bad idea?
I found a 2003 civic with 57000 miles on it...$9000. It does have a salvage title however. It has a 3 year/50 thousand mile warranty on it. I know salvage titles aren't always a great idea but this is only my second car, I'm a college student and would pretty much keep it till it's dead, I'm not worried about resale value haha. Overall it's a very clean car, aftermarket wheels, rims, exhaust, intake, etc, etc. Bad idea or good?
Well if it was a good repair and resale isn't an issue, I'd say it's not a bad idea. If you want a carfax report done on it I can provide one. I have a month unlimited.

You may be able to sell it for $5000. I don't see it going for more then that. Right now you have an 11 year old car, some will say it is 12 years old so you have to go by the average ratings not clean. And it is a Mitsubishi, not a stellar name in the auto industry. I'm not sure how much value the upgrades will add. And this is private sale. Folks will want a discount over what a dealer will price it.
