Mini Cooper Aftermarket Wheels Best wheel size for a mini cooper S 09?
I'm getting delivery on my 09 cooper s in november. I got the stock 16' wheels and wanted to get black aftermarket rims for it. My friend is telling me to get 17' as they are better suited for the car's weight and dimensions. I can't get 18' due to the numerous pot holes in the area roads. Should i stick with after market 16's of should i get 17's? Please explain why. Thanks =)
The answer largey depends on what is important to you. This is what makes the Mini a great car to own. I had a couple Cooper S's. However, it wasn't the new model ('08+). The Cooper S is already a firm ride and handling is great as stock. Tuning it can make it better, but be careful on what you do. Because your car will be new and with a factory warranty, don't do anything that vcan void the warranty. Your friend is right 17's is good for this car. Anything larger will only make it ride more rough. I had 17's on both of mine and it was already firm. I was tempted to go bigger, but the dealer told me unless it's a factory wheel, anything that happens to the car that a larger wheel could cause will void the warranty.
You will not be disappointed with 17's. It a small car and because of ir go cart like handling, you need more rubber to keep the car livable. Meaning to be able to take long rides withour feeling beaten up. I know people who has 18's but they complain of the ride and one of them a bent rim. Please look at all the options before you do this. Go with the 17's, my friend.
