Mini Cooper Battery Powered How to install a Sirius radio in 2003 Mini?
I have recently purchased a Sirius satellite radio. I had no problems hooking it up in my Honda. I recently however got a 2003 Mini Cooper and now I cannot get the radio to work. I can set up the antenna and everything, but when I plug into the cigarette lighter, I don't get power to the radio. I even recently had to change the battery - the car still had original battery - and tried again hoping there would be more power from the battery and still have no power. Does anyone know if there is anything special I need to do to get power to the radio or if there is another way besides the cigarette lighter?
is there power to the lighter at all?
You might try checking the fuse for the lighter, and/or it's wiring

Why do they not build a car like this?
Take the body/chassis from the Prius or something similarly sized and aerodynamic.
Take an engine such as the 1.6 90bhp diesel one from the fiesta econetic or 110bhp one from the mini cooper d. Or for a petrol the 67bhp 1.0 from the toyota aygo.
Add in similar econetic/efficient dynamics changes.
Stick in as large a capacity battery as is possible whilst keeping the weight and cost down, and a more powerful electric motor (maybe around 65bhp equivalent).
Make it a plug-in hybrid too.
And hey presto, you've got a hybrid thats much better than a prius without using anything thats not already on the market. Something that could maybe do 50-miles at motorway speed (70mph) under electric power alone, combined power of up to 175bhp, and way more mpg than a prius with its dated petrol engine. Even for a few thousand pounds more than a Prius is now, that would sell well.
Not a bad idea, but first we need to get our emission limits changed in the US. We cannot even get those good diesels here in the U.S. because our wonderful "Environmentalists" force us to pollute more driving lower mileage cars. Even the diesels we get in VW and Mercedes have to have added controls that lowers the efficiency.
If I could get one of those 60MPG cars, I would buy it and say the hell with our "Environmentalists".
