Are MINI coopers reliable? from the start and in the long run?

I'm thinking about buying a brand new '08 cooper. its either that or a new corolla S. i like the mini cooper WAY more, but if it has reliability issues, the i'm gonna go with the corolla. anybody have a mini and have their take on it's reliability?

I have a 2006 Cooper S that have been very reliable.

However, from 2007 on they have an entirely different engine, induction system, suspension, and even the body is different.

So far, the new ones have been pretty reliable, with only a year and a half's data on them.

Best mid size car for driving in the snow?

Help- so many mid size cars to choose from. top 10 mpg cars are.1 as the best MPG/ My question does anyone know which car would be the best handling car in the snow. any other advise would be GREAT appreciated.. Like reliablility, good price for a good car. Under 15,000 soooooooo prob used...help...

Just to correct a previous poster - the Toyota Prius is a FWD vehicle. Drive it as you would any other FWD vehicle (appropriate for the weather), and it is fine, even great in the winter. Nothing special with regard to the hybrid system.

However, the OE (stock) Goodyear Integrity tires on the current/base Toyota Prius are pretty bad on slippery/snowy roads (the Prius' traction control kicks in too agressively), especially if there's any wear on the tread, so this is where you may hear some Prius' owners complaining. If you live in snow country then you'll want to either swap out to a set of winter/traction tires seasonally, or switch to a better "all-season" (really 3-season) tire with more traction, and then the Prius is a fine winter choice. (In some heavy Massachusetts snow, my husband had a few instances of sliding into snowbanks in his 2004 Prius - then we changed to a set of Nokian WR A.W.P. tires (the only 4-season tires on the market AFAIK), and boy what a difference! No more sliding! Same on my older 2001 Prius as well, but that was from a different set of stock tires (considered LRR tires).)

So, "good in snow" I don't think is a factor when choosing a car - just look to invest in a good set of snow tires, and drive appropriate for the weather (and know when to stay home if your skills aren't up to it), and you'll be fine.

Your next issue would be to decide what you really want most - a midsize car, or the one with the highest MPG? Because you're all over the map on your listed choices:

For a new midsize car in your price range, I'd say to go with a Honda Fit. I've heard good things about them. It often comes up as a good alternative for those who are looking for something less expensive and easier to find on a lot than a Toyota Prius.

Check out the April issue of Consumer Reports if you want reliability ratings (usually available at your local library, or some friend/co-worker has a subscription), or you can look up individual vehicle's ratings online if you get a subscription.
