Mini Cooper Stunts
if the latest model mini cooper was equiped with wings how long would they have to be to just lift it?
The lift from an airplane wing does not depend so much on length as it does on the overall shape of the wing. Similar length wings can be designed for many specific purposes... for speed, for heavy lifting, for soaring, etc.
The Mini Cooper S has an empty weight about 2750 lbs, or just a bit lighter than a fully loaded Cessna 182. The 182's wings are 36 feet long, so it's reasonable to assume that a 36 foot long wing of the proper shape and construction could create enough lift to get a Mini Cooper off the ground.
Of course, the Mini has all the aerodynamic streamlining of a brick, so you'd need quite a bit of power to push it into the air too. Remember that to make an airplane (or a car) fly you need to balance the four forces of aerodynamics... Lift, thrust, drag and weight.

The Cooper Auto lineage is far spread from the original family roots.
The original BMC Mini sedan was modified by the Cooper auto group to become a sportier version of the dowdy little Mini sedan. Sort of what Shelby did to Mustangs. The Austin Mini Cooper had modifications made to the motor, exhaust and suspension to make it perform. It became very successful in its class on the racetrack. Sales jumped with the wins it recorded and a cult following developed.
BMW was looking for a new product and entered into an agreement with Cooper to build a stylized version of the Mini Cooper and market it using Cooper's name. This too has become very popular, although no where as successful on the track.
