Mini Coopers?
when i get the money together i was planning on getting one. for those of you who've had/have one, tell me about 'em. how are they in snow, gas milage, do they need repairs often, etc...
Gas mileage is great.
Fun to drive-Like a Go-Kart.
Not that reliable and maintenance and repairs are expensive.
Even buying the car is expensive.
They are good in snow since they are light cars so they do not bury into the snow.

Alternator Repair Mini Cooper S
A couple questions about Mini Coopers?
Looking at buying an 04 Sport model fully loaded.
1) I know people say it requires premium, but the lady at the dealership says you do NOT have to put in premium...any owners to contest this? What happens if you don't put premium in?
2) I am not interested in pouring tons of cash out to the BMW dealer for maintenance and repairs, will a place like Pep Boys be able to fix this car if/when there are any problems?
3) The car comes with run flat tires, and they recommend you put those on again. Has anyone here put normal tires on a cooper and had any problems?
4) I am coming from a Prius (45 mpg), and I know the mini will NOT get that, which is fine because the Prius is so boring I can't take it anymore.
If there is anything else I should know about then let me know.

I forgot to finish the 4th question....the main part of it was, what type of mileage have you cooper S owners gotten? its a manual if that matters.
1) According to the manual, the Mini requires at least 91 octane petrol. This is worse than the lowest grade petrol in Europe but higher than most premium petrol in the USA.
Putting in a lower grade petrol has the tendency to burn piston heads and valves. Also consider that if your vehicle is under warranty when these type of problems occur, the manufacturer will not cover the repairs if it is found that the required grade of fuel has not been used.
2) Legally provided a reputable licenced mechanic does the work, then your warranty (provided it hasn't expired) would still be valid. Other than that, any decent mechanic should be able to service 99% of all cars.
4) Why did you buy a smug car? Shame on you. Shame, shame shame.

'fraid not. I'd love to drive one, though. They look like they'd be fun to toodle around in. I'd be scared on the highway, or in heavy traffic, however. I doubt they'd offer much protection in an accident. Given my druthers, in heavy traffic, I'd prefer to drive a tank!

They are expensive to repair in relation to their initial cost.
If you need a headlamp, they are about $575 per side
Let's say you just need a headlamp bulb, they are $220 per side FOR A BULB!
If you ever needed a hood, just the part is $510 (no paint or labor included)
If your transmission went out…that is almost $7000 for just the part.

Notice how the “lesser” kinds of products are more expensive than the “regular” ones. I’m not just talking about green care that supposedly use “less” energy and all that jazz. A whole lot of items you find at supermarkets seem to follow this “less is priced more” scheme.
