Should I get a mini cooper?

So, I have been toying with the idea of getting a new car...mine is getting old and worn. I really like the Mini Cooper...I think I would want a Mini Cooper S. What are some opinions out there about them? Are they reliable? High maintenance? Do they really get as good of mileage as they say? I am a more conservative driver...I wouldn't be racing it or anything.

I owned a new Mini Cooper S in 2003 and had it for almost 3 years.

It was a fantastic car, and at least at that time, BMW covered all the regular maintenance for free. Beyond the recommended fluid changes, I never had to take it in for anything.

The only reason I sold it was I got married and then my wife got pregnant and it's not a very family friendly car.

I will most likely get one again someday though as I loved it.

I would definitely spend the few extra bucks and get the "S". I have driven both, and in terms of acceleration and overall handling, the S is much better (though I would not knock the regular Mini).

Very reliable and very low maintenance.

I would kind of agree with the one reasonable guy below (RDG78) about the location of the dealership. For the included maintenance, only a Mini dealer will do the work for free, so you do want one close to you. In terms of a breakdown though, for out of warranty work, lots of mechanics will work on them.

"jimoffy f" is clearly a bored 8 year old who's just mad as the last Spongebob episode of the day just ended. Ignore him. I have at least 4 friends with Mini's and the would all say the same as I did.

What is the avg. discount off of sticker for a Mini Cooper?

I'm looking at buying a Mini Cooper, of course I'm told by the salesman they charge sticker, but they may through in a toy or two. I want to deal!

LOL - Check out edmunds.com for your car buying needs - They have a number called TMV (True Market Value) that varies by location, just like discounts at car dealerships. Look up the model that you're looking to buy, punch in your options and zip code, and see what the TMV is for your area.

For Gainesville, FL, 32607, the Mini Cooper base coupe is going for about $100 less than sticker, so your dealer might not be too far off.

Do your research. Going into the dealership with a price in mind will keep you from getting too badly screwed, but there is alot that is out of your control when buying new from a dealer.
