Does the Mini Cooper II usb interface support SDHC cards of 16GB and above?

I recently purchased an SDHC 16gb card and an usb adapter. This gives me an error when inserting telling that the offered usb device is not valid. A regular PNY usb stick of 8gb did function.

Is the mini uncapable of dealing with the SDHC technology?
