Yes, a very bad idea. Do you have the ability to turn down your side channels? Do that, and then the signal output will be high enough to kick on the sub. You have to adjust the sub level too, but then you are putting out more signal into the sub.
If not, identify which one is which on the pcb. That would be my LAST resort, because adjusting levels (in receiver setup) is so non-invasive. Kinda like having surgery to cure a headache that aspirin would have fixed….
